Local committees step-in to join fight against COVID-19

In view of the grim situation of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the State and the rising positive cases, many Assembly Constituencies in the State have taken up measures to curb the further spread of COVID-19 including formation of Covid task force committees and setting up of vaccination centres and Covid Care Centres in their respective constituencies.
For Wangkhei Assembly Constituency, a meeting of Covid Awareness cum Enforcement Committee of Wangkei A/C was held at the residence of its MLA and chairperson of the committee, Yumkham Erabot Singh today.
The meeting took the following resolutions - To set up a Covid Care Centre at Boy's Hostel No 1 and 2 of Modern College, Porompat, to set up a Covid Vaccination Centre at the Indoor Stadium of the college and to set up a Covid Testing Centre at the Multipurpose Hall of the college.
Regarding the above mentioned resolutions, a request will be made to Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Imphal East to provide required medical personnel and materials for the Covid Care Centre, the vaccination and the testing centre and the Superintendent of Police, Imphal East will be requested to provide required security personnel to man the above three centres.
Lastly the meeting resolved to request the Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East for requisition of the above buildings in the interest of the general public.
On the other hand, a meeting of COVID-19 Committee and local clubs of Khurai was convened at the residence of L Susindro, MLA of Khurai Assembly Constituency yesterday and face masks were also distributed to the local clubs.
Speaking on the occasion L Susindro urged all those who have symptoms of Covid to get tested instead of hiding it and warned that legal action will be taken against the defaulters.
He further appealed to the local clubs of Khurai to join the COVID-19 Committee in its initiative to fight collectively against the pandemic.
Further he appealed to all the Government employees of the constituency to help in spreading awareness on COVID-19 and urged all those who are above 45 years of age to get vaccinated.
He stated that he has already requested the Government to conduct mass vaccination in selected areas of the Constituency.
Susindro also declared that two Covid Care Centres of Khurai A/C will be opened soon at Lamphel High School at Top Khongnangmakhong and Chingkhei Ching Residential School.
The Covid Care centres will have 150 beds each and it may increase to 200 depending on the situation, he added.
Meanwhile, a meeting of local clubs and organisations located in Ward no 9, Keishamthong.
A/C was held at the office of Imphal Rising Youth Club in Keishampat Leimajam Leikai today.
Inorder to take up efficient and strict measures against COVID-19 in the area, the meeting resolved to form COVID-19 Task Force, Ward no 9 Keishamthong A/C .
