Drug loaded van torched

A drug loaded mini van was torched by an angry mob on March 28 at Yairipok Yambem under Yairipok police station in Imphal East.
The incident occurred when local people gave chase to the vehicle after it broke through the road block put up by young girls to collect money during Yaoshang.
According to police sources, the local people gave chase after the driver of the vehicle (Tata Magic Ace) broke through the road block and injured a young girl in the process.
The local people ultimately caught up with the vehicle at Yairipok Ningthoumanai, but the driver managed to flee.
On searching the vehicle, the local people came across one full bottle of Corex cough syrup and three cartons containing Spasmo Proxyvon tablets.
As news of the seizure spread a police team from Yairipok PS rushed to the spot and to quell the mob, the police fire four rounds in the air.
Thereafter, the incensed mob took the vehicle to Yairipok Yambem and set it ablaze there.
Additional police team led by SDPO Meghachandra rushed to the spot and managed to save the vehicle, but the drugs were already found all burnt.
Police said that the vehicle was driven by one Md Apikcha of Yairipok Changamdabi and the owner of the vehicle has been identified as Md Kadir also of the same locality.
