Indian Bird Conservation Network Manipur Chapter Coordinator RK Birjit expressed hope that the number of migratory birds as well as their varieties will increase this year compared to last year.
However, it will take a few more days before the exact figure can be ascertained, he explained.
During the bird counting survey today which was conducted under the Asian Water Bird Count, around 55 varieties of birds were spotted, he said, adding that around 35,000 to 40,000 birds were counted today.
On the other hand, Wildlife Explorer Manipur in collaboration with Central Forest Division also conducted a bird counting survey at Lamphelpat and Yaralpat today.
The survey was personally monitored by DFO RK Amarjit.
19 varieties of birds were recorded at Yaralpat while 39 varieties were recorded at Lamphelpat.
