Rearing of fingerlings starts in Wangkhei Thangapat

Associated closely with the history of Manipur, the Thangapat at Wangkhei, has been lying in ruins due to the negligence of the State Government, but it has been finally cleaned up by the locals and over 30,000 fingerlings have been started rearing in it.
The cleaning up of Thangapat started since July 16 by the people living in and around the Thangapat and it completed today.
A function was organized to mark the closing day at Thangapat Mapal Community Hall.
The function was graced by social worker Thokchom Satyabratta; social worker RK Chinglen and Khwai Lakpa of Utra Sanglen Sana Konung as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Th Satyabratta stated that the Wangkhei Thangapat has existed since the time of King Churachand.
The moat, which is not only associated with the history of Manipur, but can also be converted into a tourist spot, was left neglected by the State Government for a quite long.
Satyabaratta further informed that if the moat lake is properly maintain it could be converted into a beautiful tourist spot and attract lots of tourists thereby generating income for the State Government.
At the same time, it can also provide water to the people as well, he added.
