Convention on rights of women held

In continuation of the ongoing convention on 'Rights of women' which is being organised as part of the fortnight observation by WAD, several issues were discussed and many resolutions were adopted to raise demands to the State Government.
Speaking to media persons at Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) Mantripukhri, Village Women Co-ordinating Committee I/W president W Prabha said that numerous issues have been discussed during the three days convention (November 26-28) on 'Rights of Women', which is organised as part of the Fortnight observation-Protesting violence against women by Women Action for Development (WAD).
Meanwhile, the convention also sought the attention of the State Government towards the sentiments of the rape victims and their grievances.
It also urged the State Government and the authorities concerned to facilitate speedy justice for such sensitive cases, to improve Forensic Science laboratories, increase eligible judges for dealing such cases, to serve befitting punishment to culprits and rapists and also to include subjects like gender issues in the school or college syllabus.
The convention has also appealed the State Government to install the DNA testing machine within three months and improve infrastructure for women police, to appoint and recruit competent police officers and public prosecutors.
She continued that it also urged the authorities concerned to reform customary law, punish those who commit heinous crimes.
100 people from ten districts of the State took part in the convention.
