Imphal, September 26 2022:
The Affected Land and Property Owners Association has threatened to halt the construction work of Tamenglong-Mahur (Assam) highway (NH 137) on Dailong-Jiri River sector if due compensation is not paid at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Affected Land and Property Owners Association chairman ID Gambui said that land compensation had been paid for Khongshang-Tamenglong and Tamenglong-Dailong sections of the highway.
But affected land and property owners of Dailong-Jiri River section have not been compensated till date, Gambui said.
He said that due process has been already initiated for awarding compensation to people affected by the same highway in Assam.
He urged the Government to initiate due land acquisition process on Dailong-Jiri River section so that due compensation can be paid at the earliest.
The authorities cannot avoid paying compensation on the pretext that the area is uninhabited even if they have obtained NOCs from village chiefs, he said.
He warned that the highway construction work would be stalled if due process for payment of compensation is not initiated at the earliest.
