The Superintendent of Police of Imphal East as well as Imphal West have been instructed to personally take part in the foot patrolling which has been initiated recently in the two districts with a view to bring about good relation between the police and the public, DGP, MK Das has informed.
According to another source, foot patrolling would be carried out from 9 pm onwards everyday.
In an exclusive chat with Hueiyen Lanpao today, DGP MK Das said that step taken up to include the top Police officials in the foot patrolling is to improve the relation between the police and the public as well as to bring about a good urban policing system.
For this, an initial step has to be taken up from one angle or the other, he added.

The DGP also informed that police personnel without arms would be included during the foot patrolling.
This step would create a sense of friendliness among the police and the public, apart from making the police personnel realize about their duties as a policeman.
If this trend continues, hopefully, the public would also come out willingly to help the police personnel, the DGP expressed optimism.
He went on to inform that if all the required helps from the public to the police are there, the presence of a large number of police personnel in Imphal area would not be necessary.Assuring that illegal sale of drugs in the heart of Imphal would be controlled gradually, the DGP also warned of strict actions against all those police personnel who are found engaged in collecting taxes from street vendors on daily basis.
The DGP further said that although the top police officers may be their boss in the office, they are equal to laymen on the roads.
So, it is not right to stop the traffic to let the DGP pass first.
This will create unnecessary chaos and problem among the general public.
The step taken up by the police department is a sort of community policing which could last long.
This is just a pilot project taken up on a trial basis and if it is successful in Imphal East and West, then it would be followed suit in other districts as well, the DGP added.
