Imphal, July 24 2020:
Kakchi Khunai Chaokhat Hanba Lup (KKCL) has urged the State Government to lay out plans to effectuate Chamber of Commerce and Price Fixation Committee to check the prices of various commodities in the State.
KKCL, in its statement said that shop owners, some businessmen, despite the Government notifications and guidelines, are charging prices higher than the original prices, adding woes to the people already affected by COVID-19 crisis.
Saying that people who are in need, have to pay whatever wholesalers or retailers charge them, the body maintained that the Government should review whether prices fixed by it are still followed and whether these wholesalers or retailers are following their price charts and other norms in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
Concentrating in struggles for power while neglecting the plight of common people will bring negative consequences, it warned.
The body also urged Directorate of Cooperation and District Administration to carefully observe and restrict the activities of Micro Finance Institutions which are compounding the misery of all distressed persons which are out of any means of earning since months due to the lockdown.
Although the Bombay Money-Lenders Act, 1946 is in effect in the State, many of the money lenders flouted the rules while many institutions are functioning without getting due registration, the body said while urging all concerned to do the needful before these money lenders and institutions further afflict these helpless and literally unemployed peoples.
