Stage set for Shirui Lily Festival kick-off today

The much-awaited state level Shirui Lily Festival-2022 is set to begin with much pomp and grandeur on Wednesday.
The 4th edition of the four-day tourism festival will be inaugurated by Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh as chief guest and president respectively at Shirui Ground, Ukhrul, informed Tourism director W Ibohal during a press meet held at Kabo Leikai on Tuesday.
Director Ibohal said that after the festival was postponed for two years owing to Covid-19 pandemic, the 4th edition will be held from May 25 to 28.One of the main attractions of the festival "ShiRock-2022" will be held at Bakshi Ground, Ukhrul, and the last day of the musical extravaganza will feature performance by British band, 'Monuments' on May 28.Both Shirui Ground and Bakshi Ground will have food stalls and stalls of various departments.
Adventure related activities will be held at Phungrei, he added.
Ibohal further informed that the Shirui Lily festival will witness a new event i.e., a football match at TNL ground.
Apart from this, a break dance competition for boys and 'She Chef competition for girls will be conducted.
The Department of Veterinary will also be showcasing the endangered Tangkhul dog breed, 'Haopha' (Tangkhul Hui) and 'Sandang' at the festival.
The director continued that three each bus trips for visitors will run from ISBT, Khuman Lampak from 8am till 9 am and from Ukhrul from 2 to 3 pm.
Preparations are underway to introduce a 17-seater mini bus service at Ukhrul headquarters.
It is estimated that around 5 lakh people would be visiting the festival.
As such, he appealed to all visitors to be responsible tourists and help maintain cleanliness at all festival venues by disposing the garbage only at specified locations.
Meanwhile, Miss Diva Universe 2020 winner and 3rd runner up at Miss Universe 2020, Adline Mewis Quadros Castelino arrived at Imphal International Airport on Tuesday afternoon to take part in the opening show of the festival on Wednesday.
Speaking to newspersons at the airport, Adline expressed her elation on the prospect of attending the festival, while further expressing that she cannot wait to see how everything unfolds.
She stated that it was her dream to visit Manipur after winning the pageant in 2020, but could not do so due to Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.
Adeline also stated that she is in seventh heaven right now and excited to attend as the showstopper of the opening show.
Meanwhile, designer Kumarjit Laishram said that he hopes to showcase the beautiful textiles and handloom of Manipur in a new way through Adline.
