Imphal, December 23 2021:
All Manipur Councillors and Ex-Councillors Welfare Association, the apex body of 26 Urban Local Bodies has called for urban local body elections at the earliest or re-establish the Ward Development Committees, failing which, the Association will boycott the upcoming State Assembly election.
As per a press release from All Manipur Councillors and Ex-Councillors Welfare Association, the statement was made by the president of the Association, Arambam Omila Devi during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today.
It may be noted that recently the Chief Minister had met with various councillors to discuss the matter.
Arambam Omila further lamented that the Municipal election had been postponed for almost 2 years due to the pandemic but preparations for the State Assembly election are in full swing.
She deemed this blatant disregard from the State machinery as a violation of the rights of local bodies.
As such she called for election of the urban local bodies to be conducted as soon as possible or ensure re-establishment of Ward Development Committees.
She further informed that BJP councillors of 26 towns are prepared to submit their resignation en masse to the national president of BJP, JP Naddal as the next step in their protest.
