Bye-elections: Counting begins today

Imphal, November 23 2015:
Counting of votes for the bye-elections to 5-Thongju and 9-Thangmeiband assembly segments will be held on Tuesday from 8 am onwards.
The counting will decide the fate of six candidates who were in the fray in the bye-elections.
Re-poll at polling station no 5/25 of Thongju A/C was held on Monday as a technical error occurred during voting on November 21 last.
All necessary arrangements have been made for the counting on Tuesday.
The counting for the Thangmeiband A/C will be held at DC, Imphal West Complex, Lamphel.
Counting of Thongju A/C will be held at the counting hall prepared at DIC Complex, Porompat.
Sources said that the counting will be over by 11 am since EVMs were used in the voting process.
Only counting officials, RO, DEO and election officials who are issued identity cards will be allowed to enter the counting areas.
Meanwhile, voters of 5/25 Torban Kshetri Leikai Primary School at Thongju A/C cast their votes on Monday's re-poll since 7 am.
87.69% voters cast their votes in the re-poll till around 5 pm.
BJP candidate Thongam Bishwajit and INC candidate Bijoy Koijam also visited the polling station.
No untoward incident was reported during the re-poll.
It may be mentioned that a total of six candidates had contested in the November 21 bye-elections to Thongju and Thangmeiband A/Cs.
INC candidate Bijoy Koijam, BJP candidate Th Bishwajit and Manipur Democratic People's Front (MPDF) candidate G Tonsana Sharma has contested at Thongju A/C while INC candidate Jotin Waikhom, BJP candidate Khumukcham Joykishan and MPDF candidate G Tonsana Sharma are contesting at Thangmeiband A/C.MPDF candidate G Tonsana Sharma is contesting in both the constituencies.
