LPG give-up programme: State records only 2 percent so far

The number of consumers who want to surrender subsidised cooking gas or LPG is yet to reach even 3 percent in Manipur to date.
The programme for giving up subsidised LPG is taken up by the Union Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas across the country to give more benefit of the scheme to the poor people.
Only 2 percent of consumers in the State have so far submitted applications to give up the quota, sources in Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Imphal told this daily.
The State has a total of 57 LPG distributors while the number of consumers is about 3 lakh.
Reports said some Government officers are among those who have opted to surrender the subsidized cooking gas provided by the Government.
There are no reports of ministers and MLAs applying for the purpose.
If anybody wants to quit the quota, a form should be taken from the concerned agency and submit it along with Aadhar card, voter card, identity card and other necessary documents.
The Government policy aimed at bringing up the number of LPG consumers among the poor people.
There are several thousands of families from poor economic background which have been unable to use LPG across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'LPG give-up programme' on March 27, 2015.As of now, nearly 3 million families have so far surrendered the benefit.
The Ministry of Petroleum has set a target to embrace about 10 million consumers in the programme yearly.
