Senapati, February 23 2018:
Resented over the much delayed works of the IIIT after the foundation stone was laid in January 2016 by the former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, the Naga People's Organization (NPO) has demanded the immediate resuming of works for establishment of the proposed Indian Institute of Information Technology (HIT) at Mayangkhang Village, Senapati District. In a press statement, the NPO has questioned the hidden agenda of repeatedly delaying the necessary construction works at the proposed HIT Mayangkhang which was already approved by the Ministry of HRD, Govt of India.
The NPO noted that the recent development which proposes to shift the HIT from Mayangkhang to Imphal Valley is 'disturbing and unacceptable' to the people of Senapati district and tribals as a whole.
Vehemently opposing the proposal, the NPO warned that, it will not tolerate any proposal for shifting the HIT Mayangkhang.
The foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister on January 13, 2016 at Mayangkhang village, Senapati district.
Any decision of the present State Government to go against the wishes of the people will only trigger unwanted public unrest and the Government will be held solely responsible for any consequences, said the statement.
It may be noted that, the HIT project was approved and consequently the land acquisition along with land compensation process were completed in 2016 .
However the said project is yet to take off while its temporary campus at Mantripukhri continues to function since 2016 .
