Ukhrul, February 21 2013:
In connection with the Ukhrul child torture incident, a court here on Thursday granted 'anticipatory bail' to Edala Horam, a co-accused in the case.
An official source said Edala Horam, who has been evading police arrest since February 9, has procured 'anticipatory bail' from the court.
The Court heard the appeal for anticipatory bail today after her lawyers filed for it few days ago.
In fact, after her son Jim Horam and her husband Andibas have been arrested, police were closing in on her.
In this wake, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the inhuman torture of a nine-year old girl child has termed the development as highly objectionable in view of the seriousness of the case.
Talking to this correspondent, JAC convenor AC Thotso said the Court should have perused the nature of the case in which the accused Edala is a party to the heinous crime.
He felt that the court granting her immunity from police arrest would hamper the ongoing inquiry and dispensation of justice.
It may be recalled that a week after the gory incident surfaced with the escape of the minor girl from the "torture house," an FIR was registered by the victim's family members and case (No.11 (2) 2013) was filed at Ukhrul PS.
The main accused Jim was arrested from a hideout in Ukhrul Sunday last.
He was produced in the district CJM court and sent to jail Tuesday.
Earlier, his father Andibas was taken into police custody on February 9 but he has been out on conditional bail.
