MSCW team visits patient

A team of Manipur State Commission for Women led by Dr K Sobita Devi, Chairperson visited the ICU RIMS Hospital, Lamphelpat today to enquire the condition of a woman patient from Sekmaijin Mayai Leikai under Hiyanglam PS.
The Chairperson was accompanied by Soibam (o) Neelima Devi, Member, Ranjita Golmei, Member, Dr Farida Shah, Member and L Somola Devi, support staff .
According to a statement issued by MSCW, the visiting team met with the doctors and nurses of the RIMS, family members of the patient.
The treating doctor says that the victim has been suffering from Transvers Myelitis with quadriplegia (Paralysis).
The patient has been kept on mechanical ventilator supports.
Tracheostomy has been done.
There are numerous bed sore present in her body.
The complainant, who is also the mother of the patient stated that the patient’s husband and her mother-in-law failed to take any responsibilities towards the treatment resulting to mental trauma and psychological breakdown, it said .
She further says that she wanted the presence of her husband and her in-laws since the treatment they faced financial problems very much.
Hospital authorities, doctors, nurses and even other patient’s parties are helping the patient by way of contributing their own money from their pocket for the treatment .
After the visit, the Commission decided to take up a complaint case against the husband of the victim.
They also decided to issue a warrant of arrest against the husband of the victim.
A letter will be sent to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India and to the Director, RIMS from the Commission for availing the patient’s treatment free of cost since the patient belongs to a very poor background, it added.
