Thoubal, January 18 2019:
To solve the untold misery of the public of Thoubal who were hugely affected by the flowing of muddy and dirty Thoubal river water, Workers of Thoubal Turel Nung-Leingoi Workers Association has come up with an alternative plan by digging the river to provide a new waterway, from Ngamukhong to Yambem, which is about 8 kilometre in length.
Speaking to media persons Convenor Thoubal Turel Nung-leingoi Workers Association, Sanasam Deven said that the workers of Saikul Kendra, Andro Kendra, Wangkhem Kendra, Heirok Kendra contributed significant amount of money to take up the work of providing an alternative waterway so that the public of Thoubal can enjoy clean water.
He further claimed that mining of sand was easily done before the construction of Mapithel Dam and the public of Thoubal never faced the problem of dirty and muddy water.
However, after the construction of the Dam, quarrying of sand has become a difficult task and more heavy machineries are utilised to excavate the sand from the riverbed rendering the water of Thoubal river useless for the public, he added.
A number of representations were submitted to the Chief Minister, Forest and Environment Minister, District Administration Thoubal and Imphal East to solve the water crisis but no positive actions have been taken so far.
Maintaining that quarrying of sand is the only source of livelihood for the workers, he further appealed the authority concerned to arrange another source of income at the earliest.
