Mizoram Home Minister graces Hmar Martyrs Day observation

Mizoram Home Minister R Lalzirliana has graced the 2 8th edition of Hmar Martyrs Day observation held at Saikot, Churachandpur a month after it had inked a truce with the Hmar rebel group HPC (D) .
Lalzirliana while addressing the event, that also saw the culmination of a month-long Martyrs football tournament, reiterated the Mizoram Government's effort to introduce the Sinlung Hills Council Bill by June.
The process to set up an interim council, as per the April 2 memorandum of settlement, and rehabilitation issues have also been on the final stage with the Government acknowledging the HPC(D) nominees, he said.
Nevertheless, the Mizo Minister stroke an unusual cord saying, many of Mizoram's well recognised figures and personalities are bom of the wombs of Hmars.
And therefore there is no need for Hmars to identify themselves as a sub-clan that needs autonomy.
'You should realise that Mizoram is yours and work for its unification instead,' he said.

Thanlon AC MLA Vungzain Valte and Tipaimulch AC MLA Dr Chaltonlien Amo also graced the event alongside thfe HPC(D) leaders and other local CSOs representatives.
At the Martyrs Trophy final, FAST beat FC Rengkhawpui by 1-0 to lift the trophy and the cash awards.
The Hmar Martyrs Day was observed as a holiday by private schools and newspaper under MHJU.
