US consul visits Imphal, interacts with Manipur University students

Director of the American Center and Public Affairs Officer of the United States Consulate General in Kolkata Jamie Dragon has visited Imphal on his first familiarization trip to Manipur.
The visit is a continuation of US Government's and US Consulate General Kolkata's efforts to build sustained engagement in North-East India.
At Classic Grande Hotel in Imphal today, Jamie Dragon met with Government officials, media, students, academics and civil society leaders and explored possible areas of collaboration.
He also visited Manipur University and interacted with over 100 students and discussed higher education opportunities in the US .
Interacting with the students, he said that the number of Indian students in the US has risen for fifth consecutive year.
The number has increased by 5.4 percent from last year's.The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the US Department of State builds relations between the people of the US and the people of other countries through academic, cultural, sports, professional and private sector exchanges, as well as public private partnerships and mentoring programs, he said.
China has the highest number of students studying in the US followed by India.
There is a possibility that India will beat China in the near future.
Jamie Dragon has already visited Bihar, Jharkhand and Assam.
