Imphal, October 16 2019:
People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) has come out strongly against the alleged attempt to distort the history of Manipur by calling the Kuki rebellion as Anglo-Kuki War 1917-1919 .
A statement issued by the secretary (org) of PANDM today said that from the past till date, the Kuki Rebellion has always been known as it is (Kuki Rebellion 1917-1920) .
However, recently some Kuki organisations began attempting to rename the event as the Centenary of Anglo-Kuki War 1917-1919 and also erect memorial stones bearing some controversial inscriptions, PANDM said and , cautioned against such brazen attempt to distort history by a community which had settled in the land not long ago.
Demanding an immediate stop to such practices, PANDM urged all to strive for peace and unity and warned all those intellectuals, scholars or experts concerned not to mislead the people.
On the other hand, PANDM reasoned that the Chief Minister and the State Government as well as its officials should not agree to the erection of the memorial stones which bear the controversial inscriptions.
It further appealed to the Kuki brethren not to create any issue which can lead to tension and animosity amongst one another and explained that making claims that the land belong to a particular community is an invitation for trouble and backlash.
Demanding the villages where such memorials have already been erected to immediately get rid of the memorial stones, PANDM also demanded the Government to take up necessary actions in this regard.
It then appealed to all to work for peace and prosperity instead.
