Imphal, December 13 2017:
Imphal East district police arrested a 28 year old youth today along with heroin worth around Rs 4 lakh, from New Checkon tribal market area under Porompat police station .
Displaying the arrested individual along with the seized items at SP Imphal East conference hall, Imphal East SP K Kabib briefed media persons that as a part of the drive against drugs and alcohol in the district, a team of Imphal East police, under the supervision of Additional SP Wungpam Kasar and under the command of DSP (CAR) M Roni led by OC, Narcotic Cell Imphal East, Inspector Devkumar, conducted frisking and checking at New Checkon near tribal market area .
During the operation, the police spotted a suspicious individual and detained him for checking .
On verification, the youth was identified as one Thangboy Khongsai (28) s/o Jajang Khongsai of Saring Veng Moreh Ward number 9 and on searching him, the police found two packets of heroin powder (weighing a total of around 25 grams) concealed in a red colour shoe case .
Thangboy was arrested from the spot and the items were seized after observing necessary formalities .
The SP stated that the seized heroin powder is worth around Rs 4 lakh and the arrested individual along with the seized items will be handed over to Porompat police station for taking up necessary legal actions against him under ND and PS Act .
He said that an investigation has been launched to find out where the individual got the drug and whom he was going to hand it over to as well as others involved in the drug dealing .
The SP further stated that the first priority of the drive carried out by the district police is to eradicate the problem of drugs from the State and appealed to the public to extend every possible cooperation to the police .
He also appealed to the community leaders to inform the district police regarding any suspicious individuals who indulge in such shady activities.
