IFC Minister inspects Imphal river

Imphal, April 13 2017:
Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Letpao Haokip, today, inspected the condition of Imphal river banks at Chabung Company under Mayang Imphal A/C.The Minister, who was accompanied by YAS and Education Parliamentary Secretary Kongkham Robindro, IFC Parliamentary Secretary Lourembam Rameshwar, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Parliamentary Secretary Heikham Dingo and officials of various departments, assured the people that the Government would take up every possible steps to improve the condition of the river banks and its areas.
He pointed out that he would consult with the engineers concerned regarding whether bore pile and RCC method will be feasible or whether to use wood and bamboos support to strenghten the river banks before the arrival of monsoon.
He also said that he would also seek the Chief Minister's advice regarding the matter.
The Minister further urged the people not to panic and once again assured them of every possible help from the Government's side.
Parliamentary Secretary K Robindro pointed out that in December last year a 400 metre long stretch of the river bank sank into the river taking along with it the road constructed above as it fell into the water.
He claimed that he along with the people had worked to fix the damage adding that the people were rightfully cautious as the water level of the river rose greatly due to the recent rains.
