Imphal, May 11 2023:
ATSUM's claim that the "Anglo-KukiWar Centenary Gate" was burnt and people returning from Solidarity rally were beaten by Meitei at Kangvai area are false and baseless, said Devan Khanganba, a member ofT orbung GP Apunba Club.
Speaking to media persons at Phougakchao Ikhai, he said the area where the centenary gate is a sensitive area where Meitei people couldn't even go near on the day of ATSUM's rally.
Leisang and Kangvai are all sensitive areas and Meitei people venturing into these areas on the day and causing commotion would have been impossible, he said, adding ATSUM's claims are baseless and concocted.
Around 500 houses belonging to Meitei people in and around Torbung Bangla were burnt down displacing around 5,000 people.
Moreover, Ibudhou Pakhangba Temple and Imphal Panthoibi Temple at Torbung Govindapur were also burnt, he said.
While stressing that ATSUM's claim may fuel further tension, Devan said all communities should make sincere efforts to bring peace and restore normalcy.
He also said that the people of Torbung Bangla and surrounding areas are still facing a difficult situation and they need security.
