Orientation of law enforcers on NTCP held at Kpi DHQs

Kangpokpi, May 10 2019:
NTCP Cell, District Health Society, Kangpokpi organised an orientation ceremony of law enforcers on National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) at the conference hall of SP Kangpokpi office today.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kimneng Misao, who is also the District Mission Director of District Health Society, Kangpokpi presented the overview of the NTCP programme after welcoming all the participants and lauded the District SP for his enthusiastic help in organizing the event successfully.
The CMO said that tobacco use is the single largest cause of an early death and illness worldwide while more than five lakh people die each year across the globe from tobacco use and nearly eight lakh Indians die every year, which is more than those killed by AIDS, TB, Malaria, etc.
She continued that more than 2,200 Indians die every day and 40 out of 100 cancer cases in India are tobacco related.
The CMO also urged the law enforcers to take pro-active role in the implementation of NTCP in the district wherein SP Kangpokpi assured to extend necessary co-operation and participation from the law enforcers.
Resource person, Dr N Somorjit, State Nodal Officer, NTCP Manipur enlightened the participants about the burden of tobacco in Manipur while highlighting the overview of NTCP programme and COTPA Act 2003 .
Dr John Lupheng, District Nodal Officer, NTCP Kangpokpi presented the harmful effects of tobacco consumption on health and the need to seriously look into this menace with the collective efforts of the stakeholders.
Dr Ph Henkhoneng Mate, District Malaria Officer, Kangpokpi extended her heartfelt thanks to all the participants and SNO Dr Somorjit.
The orientation programme moderated by Th Prabhabati, District Programme Manager, DHS, Kangpokpi was attended by all law enforcers of different PSs under Kpi district and officials from the Health Department.
