16 UG cadres lay down arms

Altogether 16 cadres belonging to different outfits today surrendered before Manipur Police DGP Y Joykumar sand IG AR (South) Maj Gen CA Krishnan.
The alleged UG cadres surrendered with their arms at a simple function held in Chardwar Hall inside Hqs IG AR (S) at Mantripukhri.
The 16 UG cadres returned to the mainstream reportedly at the initiative of 31 AR, 29 AR and 22 AR under 26 Sector.
Speaking at the function DGP Y Joykumar stated that surrender of UG cadres in succession has indicated a visible change in the mindset of misguided youths.
Welcoming the surrendered UG cadres on behalf of the State Government and the Police Department, the DGP assured all possible assistance towards enabling the surrendered cadres lead a secure life without any fear.
"Some days back, a Japanese Minister enquired about the law and order situation of Manipur with regard to funding second phase of the Sericulture.
I told him there has been great change now", Joykumar said.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, IG AR (S) Maj Gen CA Krishnan said that 182 cadres belonging to different outfits have surrendered between April last year and till date.
This is not inclusive of the 122 cadres of KCP-MC (Lallumba faction) who laid down arms at their own accord.

The Major General also mentioned that the State Government has already enacted a fine surrender policy.
The cadres who surrendered today included three from UNLF, two from PREPAK, four from Pakan Re-unification Army, two from United Tribal Liberation Army, three from PULF and one each from KYKL and KCP.
They laid down 16 firearms including six AK rifles, two M-16 rifles, three 9 mm pistols, one number each of US made carbine, lethod gun, point 32 pistol, point 38 revolver and M-22 pistol.
They also brought along two lethod shells and huge number of assorted ammunition.
L/Cpl Ningthoujam Joichandra alias Sangakpa (UNLF), Cpl Loitongbam Biaramani alias Jadumani (KYKL), Tongbram Ibomcha alias Syamchand alias Rajesh (PREPAK), Pvt Hemam Johnson alias Lambicha (UNLF), L/Cpl Moirangthem Sunil alias Tampakngakpa (KCP) and Pvt Yengkhom Sanatomba alias Lanthaba (UNLF) surrendered at the initiative of 29 Assam Rifles.
31 Assam Rifles took extra efforts to bring to the mainstream Pvt Gigu Khan (PULF), Pvt Nasir Khan (PULF), Pvt Ngouba Khan Pvt Abdul Khan (PREPAK Pvt Angnopa Moyon (PRA), Pvt Gilbertson Anal (PRA), Pvt Monal Anal (PRA) and Pvt Jimmy Anal (PRA).
Thangsian Moun alias Vikram and Ginneilunun Vaiphei of UTLA surrendered at the initiative of 22 Grenadiers.
