Suspect in gun attack on Mala held

Imphal, May 05 2013:
In connection with the gun attack on Lisham Mala, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Thoubal at Thoubal Haokha yesterday, Thoubal police have arrested one suspect.
The police are yet to confirm whether the arrested person is the one who was actually involved in the gun attack or not.
So, the police are keeping mum over the progress of the investigation into the case.
Nonetheless, the suspect arrested by the police has been identified as Md Basir Ahmad.
He is presently attached to the Imphal West District Police Narcotic Cell.
The i10 car used while carrying out the gun attack on Mala has been recovered by the police from Md Basir Ahmad.
It is said that though the involved i10 car (MN04A/7838)is registered in the name of Sonia Alam of Yairipok Ningthou Manai, who is the wife of Congress worker Alam Azad, the car was sold in 2012 to another person and it was again bought by Md Basir Ahmad.
Alam Azad had also personally came to Mala and clarified that it was not him who had opened fire at her.
Meanwhile, protesting against the gun attack on Mala, various CSOs of the State including WASAK, Ching-Tam United Women Association, Apunba Kanba Ima Lup, Kanglamei etc jointly staged a mass sit-in-protest at Thangmeiband near ABC godown.
