Biswajit urges NREGA officials to expedite works in time

Imphal, October 04 2018: Conveying that a sum of Rs 85 crore has been released for NREGA recently, RD&PR Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh has urged all the authorities concerned of the Act to execute all necessary works in time to be able to produce the UC in time.

He was speaking as chief guest at a sewing machines and weaver cards distribution function organized by Department of Labour, Handloom & Textile at the residence of the Minister at Ningomthong Bazar, Imphal today.

The Minister went on to point out that the allocation of subsequent funds for the scheme depend much more on the proper and timely execution of works by the authorities concerned.

Stressing on the importance of building a strong work force and producing skilled labourers to make poor and weaker sections of the society economically sound, he said the labourers, weavers and artisans too have to come out and sincerely look for the benefits available under various schemes.

The local bodies like Zilla Parishad Members, Pradhans or Ward Members cannot be the only responsible persons to cater the benefits of various schemes to the labourers, weavers or artisans, he said.

He also assured that the Government will continue to support those people who genuinely works hard and seek help.

Highlighting the schemes taken up by the Government, Biswajit informed that a new programme called Integrated Development Programme was recently introduced for artisans.

Reminding that the youth comprises 65% of the country's total population, he said that the Government is taking up several schemes with an aim to make youths skilful and also to build a strong work force for the prosperity of the country.

Unlike in the past, which takes 10 percent CS for making labour cards, the Labour Department is providing the cards free of cost as the card is important for the beneficiaries to avail any benefits from the Government.

He said that the same card is even necessary for applying MUDRA loan.

Meanwhile, the Minister clarified that there is no incidence of harassing anyone by him but asserted that necessary actions has been taken up against those culprits who spoke against him with vested interest.

No one is above law, even the Ministers have to get jail term if they do something wrong, Biswajit added.

The function was attended by Labour Welfare Board Chairman Heikham Dingo Singh, Handloom & Textile Director K Lamlee Kamei, Handloom & Textile Deputy Director E Jiten Singh and Bashikhong ZP Member Ch Jasobanta Singh as the guests of honour and president respectively.

Sewing machines and weaver cards were distributed to 50 beneficiaries of Thongju A/C, who have completed a training programme conducted under the Dept of Labour, Handloom and Textile.
