Doctors meet on 'North-East Haemophilia update' at Imphal

Imphal, August 04 2019:
North East Haemophilia Consortium on Sunday organised 'North-East Haemophilia Update' at Classic Grande, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, Haematologist Asst Professor of Medicine JNIMS Dr Irom Anil Singh said that Haemophilia is a mostly inherited genetic disorder that impairs the body's ability to make blood clots, a process needed to stop bleeding.
There are two common types of Haemophilia - A and B .
Haemophilia A is most common, he said.
Early diagnosis and treatment are needed in order to make the blood clot in persons suffering from Haemophilia.

Bleeding of gum is common in Haemophilia, he added.
Most of the times doctors overlook and ignore Haemophilia when treating patients.
The programme was organised to sensitise doctors in North-East States about the bleeding disorder to better serve the patients and saves lives in complex cases, he said.
Quiz competitions are being organised to sensitise and teach medical students about Haemophilia, he said.
5 teams of medical students from Assam, one team from Tripura, one from Shillong and two teams from Manipur are competing in a quiz on Haemophilia.
Two teams selected will further compete in the zonal level with States like Kolkata Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand.
The selected teams will further compete in the National level, he added.
