Imphal, September 03 2015:
Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of eight persons in Churachandpur on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi demanding the immediate repeal of the Bills passed in the Assembly recently or asking him to "insert exceptional clause" for the tribals.
In the memorandum, JAC Chief Coordinator H Mangchin Khup and Coordinator (Administration) Lalkhohao Chongloi said that the spontaneous reaction of the tribal populace against the recently passed Bills signified the "deep divide between the valley and hill areas" .
The violent reaction and subsequent loss of lives and damage caused to properties was unfortunate, said the memorandum.
It also expressed "displeasure against the anti-tribal policy of the Government" .
The JAC further said "eight innocent persons made supreme sacrifices" for the tribal people and urged the State Government to constitute a judicial inquiry by an independent body and take immediate and appropriate action against the security personnel involved in the incidents.
The JAC also warned that if the Government failed to fulfill its demands, they will not claim the bodies of those killed in the firing incidents.
The committee further demanded appropriate ex-gratia to the family members of the victims.
