Chandel, January 02 2017:
The Kuki National Liberation Front (KNLF) has been merged with the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) today, our correspondent reports.
KNLF chairman Helun Haokip announced the merger at a press meet held at UKLF's Nazareth camp, Chandel, yesterday.
The existence of different independent groups within the Kuki community has not only affected development, it has resulted in different forms of violence within the community.
The Kuki tribes have repeatedly called for the merger of all the different Kuki groups and organisations, Helun Haokip stated.
"Taking into account the desires of the Kuki people and in view of the new year 2017, we have decided to dissolve KNLF and join UKLF.
KNLF will henceforth cease to exist as an organisation," the KNLF chairman said.
"KNLF has 52 cadres and all our cadres will reach UKLF camp shortly", Helun said.
Notably, the KNLF is affiliated to the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) while UKLF functions under United People's Front (UPF) .
