Imphal, May 31 2013 :
Manipur High Court has initiated proceedings for Contempt of Court against two IAS officers namely Commissioner of Revenue S Sunderlal and Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East RK Dinesh in connection with the recent eviction of Naga River Lane-Kabo Leikai.
The contempt proceedings have been taken up after the JAC Against Eviction of Naga River Lane-Kabo Leikai filed a case in the High Court regarding the eviction.
A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice AM Sapre and Justice N Kotishwar initiated the contempt proceedings against the two IAS officers after hearing the counsels of both parties today.
The officers had ordered the eviction at Naga River Lane-Kabo Leikai on May 20 by defying a ruling of the High Court passed on February 19 this year to maintain status quo in the controversial area.
It may be mentioned that the State government issued a notification for the eviction of Kabo Leikai on December 17, 2010 under Section 4 of Land Acquisition Act, 1894.However, the JAC challenged the eviction notice in the High Court and a ruling was passed to maintain status quo in the area in question.
In spite of that State government evicted all the families from Naga River Lane-Kabo Leikai on May 20 by demolishing their homes and even prayer houses.
