Week long workshop on Meetei Mayek reading & writing for elementary teachers starts

A 7 day workshop on Manipuri Language (Meetei Mayek) Reading and Writing Skill Development for Elementary Teachers of Bishnupur district began today at Utlou High School, Bishnupur.
The inaugural function organized by SCERT/DIET was graced by Bishnupur ZEO (Zone IV) AI N Sandhyarani, MEELAL former president M Naokhamba Meetei, Utlou High School Headmistress Kh Sana and SCERT/DIET Programme coordinator L Khursov Meetei as presidium members.
SCERT/DIET Project Officer (DIET in-charge) W Ratankumar and Lecturer of DIET, Ukhrul L Somobala also attended the function as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Khursov Meetei informed that the workshop is being organized with the main objective to alleviate the difficulties faced by elementary school teachers in reading and writing Meetei Mayek as well as to promote the same script.
He said that many of the elementary school teachers lack the knowledge of Meetei Mayek and cannot read and write the said script till today, as Bengali script had been previously used in place of Meetei Mayek in the school syllabus of the State.
He went on to convey that the workshop will be organized in other districts of the State too.
Altogether 50 teachers of elementary schools from Bishnupur district will be participating in the workshop, which will be concluded on March 6 .
