CM inaugurates ATDC

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today inaugurated an Apparel Training Design Centre (ATDC) at DIC Complex, Porompat.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, O Ibobi said that being a vast country having around 500 million unemployed youths, there is a great need to impart appropriate skills to the youth to enable them get suitable jobs.
Maintaining that the textile sector is the second largest employment provider next to agriculture, the Chief Minister said that over 45 million people are being engaged in the sector directly or indirectly.
Manipur is home to various ethnic communities hav- ing their own traditional attires and textile products with distinctive designs, O Ibobi said and added that there is tremendous scope for development of fashion industry based on ethnic designs and motifs in the State.

Stating that ATDC has so far given training and employment to over 200 youths, O Ibobi said that imparting training on apparel and design to the youths is an important means of mitigating the unemployment problems in the State.
Expressing hope that the vocational institute would provide greater opportunity for impartinf higher skills to the youths by conducting training programmes on designs and tecchnology of longer duration up to one year, Ibobi promised that the State Government would continue to extend full support to ATDC for its programmes and projects in the State.
Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, AEPC, ATDC&IAM chairman Virender Uppal, Additional Chief Secretary O Nabakishore, Commerce and Industries Principal Secretary L Lakher and ATDC Vice-Chairmen Hari Kapoor and HKL Magu and ATDC & IAM DG & CEO Dr Darlie O Koshy also attended the function as dignataries at the function jointly organised by Board of Governors of ATDC and State Commerce and Industries Department.
