Imphal, November 28 2021:
At least ten Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have lodged a complaint to Imphal West Superintendent of Police to take legal action against the person who 'insulted' Rani Gaidinliu on social media, today.
The complaint was filed against one Dr Mark T Haokip who identified himself as president of International Human Rights Association Manipur by IPSA, ACOAM-Lup, PANDM, IPAK, KANGLAMEI, Kabui Mothers' Association, KIL, CLK, Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) and KSA.
A copy of the complaint was also submitted to Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Officer in Charge of Imphal police station Inspector N Ingocha.
Speaking to media persons, IPSA vice president Khuraijam Athouba said that the person belittling Rani Gaidinliu as a fake freedom fighter on a social media post on November 23 last should not be taken lightly as it is anti-Manipuri and has the tendency to create animosity among the people.
His accusation is akin to ridiculing every freedom fighter of the State, he said and added that Mark T Haokip even tagged Union Home Minister Amit Shah on his post.
A certain Rongmei organization had already submitted a report to the police regarding the post but the latter have not taken up any tangible action, Athouba rued and added that Dr Mark T Haokip uploaded another post the following day (November 24) on his Facebook account which seems like an apology.
Athouba then urged the authorities concerned to take befitting actions against Dr Mark to ensure such incidents don't recur.
The 10 CSOs will not remain as a mute spectator if the police fail to book him within three days, he said.
