Any individual or group involved in abduction and subsequent killing of Athuan Abonmai, former president of Zeliangrong Baudi will not be spared, asserted Chief Minister N Biren Singh who is also in charge of the Home portfolio today at a press conference held at CM Secretariat, Imphal.
Speaking to media persons, the Chief Minister said that Athuan Abonmai was a politician and social worker who always work for the cordial relationship between the Hills and Valley and also for integrity of Manipur.
Stating that the barbaric and cowardly killing of Athuan Abonmai is highly condemnable, the Chief Minister said that anybody involved whether officials or civil society organization/s will be booked and legal action will be taken against them.

"As the Home Minister, I apologise to the people for the security lapses that led to the the incident" said the Chief Minister and came out strongly against the police personnel for not intervening while Athuan Abonmai was being abducted in broad daylight.
16 (sixteen) Police personnel including the OC, SI and ASI have been identified for their grave misconduct and dereliction of duty and have been put under suspension.
The State Govt has constituted a 3 member Committee headed by K Radhashyam Singh, IPS, IGP (Int) to inquire into the incident leading to the abduction and subsequent killing of Athuan Abonmai on September 22, said the Chief Minister and added that the Committee will submit its report within one week without fail.
The Chief Minister further stated that if there is any involvement of group/s that are under ceasefire agreement with the Govt.of India, then the case will be handed over to the NIA.
The State Govt is in communication with the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the incident, he added.
Stating that the Government will not tolerate any illegal activities, the Chief Minister said that combing operation has already begun to search the culprits and added that the operation will continue till all the involved persons are arrested.
The State Government shares the pain and sorrow of the family members and relatives of Late Athuan Abonmai.
The State Cabinet will decide on providing ex-gratia to the next of kin and also extend all possible assistance to the bereaved family members, he added.
