Monsoon session starts, Suraj, Meghachandra, Haokholal condoled

Solemn condolences were paid to the memories of three late members of the State Assembly on the first day of the Monsoon session which started today.
Making obituary reference, the House condoled the demise of three former members, namely Moirangthem Meghachandra, Haokholal Thangjom and Elangbam Suraj and observed two minutes silence to pay respect to the departed souls.
Leader of the House, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh led the members in offering condolences to Moirangthem Meghachandra who was elected to the 2nd Manipur Legislative Assembly for the first time from Uripok A/C, Haokholal Thangjom who had been elected from Churachandpur A/C and to Elangbam Suraj, who was a member of the current 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly elected from Yaiskul A/C.Describing Moirangthem Meghachandra as a political stalwart, who not only became member of the State Assembly twice in 1972 and 1974 but also an elected member of the Parliament in Lok Sabha 1967, the Chief Minister pointed out that Meghachandra had played a major role in the attainment of Statehood by Manipur.
The Chief Minister also shared in the grief of the bereaved family members.
Describing Haokholal Thangjom as a leader of various organisations in Churachandpur who also played major role in the Statehood movement and even languished in the jail, Chief Minister recalled that as a Minister Haokholal not only brought about many developmental changes but also worked for the upliftment of backward communities.
This demise was a great loss to Manipur, the Chief Minister added.
Expressing condolence over the demise of Elangbam Suraj without completing his term in the current 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister hailed the late MLA as a qualified young and dynamic leader from whom the State and its people could expect many developmental changes specially in the field of sports.
Opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam termed the demise Moirangthem Meghachandra, Haokholal Thangjom and Elangbam Suraj as irreparable lost to the Manipuri society.
MLA O Joy said Meghachandra and Haokholal Thangjom were exemplary leaders Suraj was a young legislator with great hope for future.
Assembly Speaker I Hemochandra observed that he has no words to expressed condolence over sad demise of Suraj.
He also expressed condolences over the demise of the three leaders.
Other MLAs including N Mangi, V Hangkhalien, Dr Kh Ratan, Hellauddin Khan, T Mangibabu and Deputy Speaker Th Lokeshore also mourned the demise of three House members.
