'Water for all' mission ahead of target: Dikho

The "Water for all" mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi may be achieved by 2022 for the State well ahead of the 2024 target, said PHE Minister Losii Dikho.
Inspecting the sites and studying the status reports of drinking water projects and schemes presently being executed by the PHED, the Minister expressed confidence that the State will be able to provide clean drinking water to all by 2022.He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had set 2024 for achieving the 'Water for all' mission.
"Under the strong and dynamic leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the State's drinking water system will be at its best very soon," he said.
Manipur has been granted funds under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and New Development Bank (NDB) to achieve the 'drinking water for all' target set by the Centre, he added.
He further said that mega projects sponsored by North-East Special Infrastructure Development Schemes (NESIDS) at Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong and Moreh are all in completion stage.
The Churachandpur district mega project has been completed 9 months ahead of the actual target while Senapati district project will be completed within this year.
The schemes will cover both the hills and the valley with proper pipelines, water reservoirs, overhead water tanks and home connections.
"Since the past few weeks, I have been physically inspecting undergoing works at Langol, Langjing, Khuman Lampak, Tera, Iroishemba, Chingtham Leikai, Ghari Zone-I, Sajor Leikai, Porompat, Sangaiprou, Old and New Thumbuthong and many other places in hill districts of Manipur.
Many projects in urban areas of Imphal are executed by SPML and Keystone Infra Private Ltd.
Here, the tender processes for NDB funded projects are expected to be completed within next month.
Schemes in those areas not covered under JJM (Jal Jeevan Mission) will be completed under the NDB funds," he said.
Assuring accessible drinking water facilities across Manipur, Dikho said that he will personally inspect all work-sites and strictly supervise execution of the works in close coordination with officials of the Department during the dry season.
