COVID-19 has gripped Sambei village in Imphal East district with as many as 94 persons testing positive for the virus in the last few days.
The 94 persons were found positive when testing a total of 154 persons over the last few days.
The Covid hotspot in the making, Sambei under Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency has an approximate population of about 700.COVID-19 has so far claimed the lives of two persons from the village.
Significantly, the State has been witnessing record spikes in COVID-19 cases and casualty amid the second wave of the pandemic.
This is amid the ongoing vaccination against coronavirus.
Notably, the State is starting the vaccination drive for age group 18-44 from tomorrow.

Meanwhile, local MLA Th Lokeshwor has visited the village and taken stock of the situation there.
Deeply concerned with the situation in the village, he said the village has become a "red zone" .
94 Covid positive cases out of 154 tested is a very disturbing situation.
The Government should take up immediate measures to contain the spread of the virus and ramp up hospitals and healthcare centres in the vicinity of the village, he said.
Containing the virus spread requires collective efforts of the Government, healthcare workers and people.
People should always adhere to the preventive and precautionary advisories issued by the WHO (World Health Organisation) and Health Department.
People should respect and uphold the curbs imposed due to the pandemic, he said.
He informed that a COVID-19 Isolation Centre for Khundrakpam AC has been opened and people may contact Helpline Numbers- 8787346660 and WhatsApp No 7629855942 24x7 for Covid related assistance.
During the visit, he donated relief materials for the people of the village to Sambei Youth Club.
He donated 25 bags of rice, three bags of potatoes, more than 3 bags of packaged salt, 170 bottles of edible oil, fermented fish (ngari), 170 packets of soap.
Khundrakpam Kendra Development Committee, under the aegis of MLA Th Lokeshwor also distributed essential items to 45 households at Uyumpok, Pourabi, Khundrakpam and Yuman Khunou.
On the other hand, prospective candidate, Preshyo- jit Sanglakpam in association with Helping Hands Thongju Kendra distributed relief materials to 85 households at Ucheckon, Kongba, Irong, Khongman, Bashi-khong and Okram Chuthek.
