Bomb attack foiled, 8 PLA cadres held

A team of Thoubal commandos arrested at least eight active cadres of RPF/PLA including one juvenile who were allegedly involved in killing non-Manipuris at Kakching and Andro Huikap yesterday.
The commando team also reportedly foiled an attempt to carry out a bomb attack on the eve of the Independence Day celebration.
The eight cadres have been identified as Chingakham Basanta Singh (38) alias Khambaton s/o Ch Ningthembi Singh of Andro Khuman Nungyumbi, Moirangthem Jitesh (22) s/o Moirangthem Sanjit of Kakching Nongthou Leikai, Konjengbam Romeo (28) s/o Konjengbam Raghu Singh of Moirang Konjengbam Maning Leikai, presently staying at Awang Sekmai Koujengleima, Phanjoubam Rabi alias Luwangamba (26) s/o P Kula Singh of Andro Labaojam Ching Leikai, Salam Mangijao (55) s/o (L) Salam Tombi Singh of Kakching Wairi Salam Leikai, Naorem Manoj (23) s/o Naorem Nobin Singh of Luker Mayai Leikai, Imphal West and Samurailatpam Akash alias Muston Sharma (19) s/o S Rajeswor Sharma of Kakching Wairi Saban Bamon Leikai.
Speaking to media persons today, Thoubal SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam stated that the militants were directed to plant explosives at various places in Thoubal, Imphal East.
Imphal West and Kakching and attack security forces in Thoubal on the eve of the the Independence Day.
They were reportedly acting under the instructions of self-styled lieutenant colonel of PLA Rishikanta.
Based on the information, a combined team of Thoubal commando and a column of 16 AR rushed towards Yairipok Bazar and conducted a cordon and search operation to trace the explosive devices and later conducted a day long operation at various locations in Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West and Kakching districts during which the eight active cadres of RPF/PLA including one juvenile were arrested.
The SP further stated that two hand grenades, two 9 mm pistols with magazines and 35 live rounds were seized from them, said the SP and added that the juvenile has been handed over to the designated child welfare police officer of Yairipok Police Station.
According to the SP, the arrested cadres were involved in killing two non-locals at Kakching on June 23 and at Andro Huikap, Imphal East on July 8.The arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Yairipok Police Station.
