UNLF mourns, salutes founding member

The proscribed UNLF has deeply mourned the demise of one of its founding members, Ojha Ajaipu Kamson, who passed away at his residence at Kakhulong, Imphal West on January 12.He was 83 .
Born to late Kakhanggai and late Chunganglung, Ojha Ajaipu played a key role in the formation of the UNLF, said the outfit in a statement and added that the outfit and its armed wing the MPA have deeply condoled the demise of the pioneering figure.
Saluting the late man, the Central Committee of the UNLF said that he played a key role in founding the outfit and was a close associate of the first president of the UNLF, Kalalung Kamei, vice president Thongkhopao Singsit, general secretary Arambam Samarendra, army chief Nongmaithem Pahari, youth organisation NK Sanajaoba, Manimohon and Laishram Kanhai.

Deeply devoted to fighting for the lost sovereignty of Manipur, his death is a big loss for the people of Manipur and the UNLF, added the statement.
The then army chief of UNLF, N Pahari assigned the duties of deputy chief of army staff to Ojha Ajaipu and used his service to tour the nearby hill areas to spread the message of revolution to the young people.
In 1968-69, a camp of the UNLF was opened at Khoupum and training was imparted to the young people of the hills and the plains for the first time under his guidance, said the outfit.
Acknowledging his deep commitment to the cause at hand, the then president Kalalung and general secretary Arambam Samarendra assigned many important and sensitive tasks to him, recalled the outfit.
He was also assigned the work of the liaison officer responsible for organising meetings of the Central Committee and keeping the doors of communication between the leaders open.
He also played a key role in keeping the communication open with leaders of Burma then.
The Central Committee of the UNLF shares the deep pain and sorrow of the bereaved family members, the near and dear ones of the departed soul, said the outfit and added that to pay respect the departed soul, the flag of the outfit was flown at half mast and revolutionary salute paid.
Condolence meetings were also held at all the units of the UNLF/MPA, added the statement.
