Imphal, July 13 2012:
On account of the NH-2 bandh being imposed by the Southern Angami Youth Organisation in Nagaland section of the highway, LPG and petrol stocks have depleted to a low level.
A reliable source informed that shipment of petroleum products into the State was stopped just after seven days during the current month.
Because of the highway bandh, around 108 Manipur bound loaded TTs and LPG bullets are stranded at Khatkhati.
The State Government has however made no arrangements to transport petroleum products along Imphal-Jiribam highway.
Nevertheless, the State Government has been reportedly negotiating to resolve the impasse and end the bandh being imposed by the Southern Angami Youth Organisation.
Even though the condition of Imphal-Jiribam highway was pathetic, essential commodities including petroleum products were brought along the highway during the prolonged twin highway blockades last year.
Even today, some items including FCI goods and fertilizers are being shipped along NH 37 .
Coupled with absence of any alternative arrangement from the side of the Government, the highway bandh in Nagaland section has depleted the stocks of petrol and LPG to an alarming level.
As per the report released by the State level coordinator of the Imphal based IOC North East Integrated Sales Office on July 11, there was 10 days stock of petrol in the Chingmeirong depot and LPG stock of just three days.
Like in the preceding years, people have started making long queues in front of oil pumps at Imphal following closure of oil pumps for the past three days and depletion of petrol stock at the depot.
