Home Minister inspects Manipur Police Training School and Forensic Science Laboratory

Imphal, June 13 2012: Home Minister Gaikhangam today paid a visit to Manipur Police Training School and Forensic Science Laboratory, located at Pangei.

Inside the school, which is an important unit of the Manipur police organisation, Gaikhangam inspected the barracks, unit hospital, mess room, langar as well as the gymnasium which is under construction.

Gaikhangam observed non-availability of electricity at barracks, worn out mattresses at the unit hospital and absence of chimney in the langar.

There, Gaikhangam instructed relevant officials to construct new structures at the periphery of the campus in the form of vertical expansion so that the central portion can be kept as an open ground.

The Home Minister also came across shortage of staff and unkempt store rooms.

Later, responding to queries put up by media persons, the Home Minister maintained that the school cannot be called sub-standard if one takes into account the small amount sanctioned for its maintenance.

Nevertheless, he conceded that there are shortfalls both in terms of infrastructure and manpower.

Stating that the school was upgraded to the status of a training college in 2009, Gaikhangam assured that minimum requirements of the school would be fulfilled within one year.

The next stop for the Home Minister's inspection tour was the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) which is located nearby.

There, Gaikhangam saw that many costly machines cannot be installed or operated due to non-availability of regular power supply.

He surveyed ballistic section, chemical section, document section and other facilities inside the FSL.

Informing that there is a proposal to construct a new building for the FSL, Gaikhangam stated that he would make arrangements to ensure availability of adequate power supply in consultation with Power Department so as to make all support systems operational.

The Home Minister's entourage included Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu, DGP R Baral and other relevant officials.

Before visiting the FSL, Gaikhangam delivered a speech to new recruits at MPTS multipurpose hall.

Underscoring the vital importance of discipline in all professions, Gaikhangam exhorted the recruits not to see the profession of police as some sort of fashion or merely for the sake of salaries.

He further advised the recruits to do something for the State with discipline, loyalty and spirit of sacrifice.

Confiding that he felt ashamed when policemen/jawans were involved in scandals or anti-social activities, he asked the recruits not to forsake the faith reposed upon them by the Government.
