PHED opens hand pump option

Investigation, Planning and Design Division No 1 of PHED has been working to establish hand pumps at Kaljang, Sangaikot, Matejang, Kuvang, N Khakut and Lairoiphai villages of Singhat Assembly segment in order to address the problem of water scarcity at these places.
The new initiative is being taken up from the annual plan amount of 2013-14 .
The same measures would be taken up in six other villages of the same Assembly segment in the second phase.
Boring and construction of hand pumps have been already completed at Sangaikot, Matejang and Kuvang, and the same work is underway at the remaining villages.
Expressing satisfaction over the Government's new initiative aimed at solving the problem of water scarcity, some villagers of Sangaikot said they used to fetch water from Imphal river about 7/8 Kms away from the village by hiring a truck at Rs 300 to 400 per trip.

Singhat Assembly Constituency MLA Ginsuanhao today inspected the places where hand pumps have been drilled and are being constructed.
He said that the hand pumps are being constructed with due approval of the Chief Minister and the PHE Minister.People of these villages would no longer face the problem of water scarcity after construction of hand pumps are fully completed.
He also appealed to all the villagers to use the hand pumps with care.
The MLA also made a spot assessment of the existing condition of the suspension bridge built over Tuining river which connects Sangaikot with Mungbung, P Khunom, Sangjangpat and some other villages within Singhat Assembly segment.
He then visited Hiangkeng village and offered an additional amount of Rs five lakh to complete the community hall being constructed there at the cost of Rs 15 lakh from MLA Local Area Development Fund.
