Imphal, January 09 2015 :
Progress of the construction work of a 400 KVA power transmission line from Jiribam to Imphal would be reviewed by the Union Ministry of Power at a joint meeting scheduled on January 13 at New Delhi together with officials of the Power Grid Corporation of India and the State Government.
The review meeting has been convened as the construction work of the power transmission line is unlikely to be completed within the deadline set by the Power Ministry, informed an official source.
The State Government would be represented by Commissioner (Power) Vineet Joshi at the review meeting.
The meeting may discuss about extending the deadline or setting a new deadline for completion of the power transmission construction work.

Under strong pressure exerted by Chief Minister O Ibobi, construction work of the power transmission line from Jiribam has been going on speedily after PGCI roped in additional firms apart from enhancing the work force.
The construction work may be completed before the onset of monsoon.
In the absence of adequate power lines for importing power from outside the State, power shortage remains a chronic issue in the State.
The problem of power shortage becomes more acute every dry season.
It is reported that the State Government's plan to provide 24 hours power supply in Imphal area would be hard to fructify unless construction of the power transmission line from Jiribam to Imphal is completed.
Once the installation work of the power line is completed, Manipur would get 40 MW from Paltana Power Plant and the same transmission line can be used for importing power from other power plants/projects.
In the meantime, the State Government has been installing pre-paid power metres at Imphal and all hill district headquarters with a view to introduce pre-paid power billing system throughout the State in a phase manner, added the source.
