Ranjit highlights state of Sugnu to Uikey, CM, Security Advisor

Senior Congress MLA K Ranjit Singh called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan and apprised her about the prevailing crisis and urged her to take appropriate steps to contain violence and restore normalcy and peace.
The Congress MLA also submitted a memorandum each to the Governor, the Chief Minister and the Security Advisor listing a series of demands with topmost priorities on protection of lives and properties from the onslaught of the Kuki militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact.
Speaking to media persons later at his quarter at Babupara, K Ranjit said that Sugnu has lately become a soft target for Kuki militants.
Saying that Sugnu didn't have any case of ethnic violence till May 27, the MLA stated that Kuki militants under SoO agreement launched their first attack in the Sugnu-Serou area in the wee hours of May 28 .

Many civilians have died in the attack of these militant groups while several others were injured, he said and claimed that about 300 houses in the Constituency have also been torched by the militants.
Stating further that Kuki militants are still attacking Meetei families in Sugnu-Serou area, the Congress MLA continued that the security forces being deployed are however, not adequate.
K Ranjit continued that he had requested the Governor and the Chief Minister to set up permanent security posts at Serou Lamkhai and Sugnu-Serou area.
Stating that about six thousand displaced people of Sugnu are taking shelter at different relief camps while many others are at their relative places, K Ranjit said that he has been extending assistance to the displaced people of the Constituency.
K Ranjit requested the Governor to take action against the armed Kuki miscreants who are involved in attacking and killing civilians and burning down houses in Sugnu Assembly Constituency and other parts of the State.
He reminded the Governor about the horrific incidents of firing and arson including his residence at Serou recently and urged the Governor to abrogate Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement, said a statement released by the Governor's PRO.
The Governor assured the MLA that action will be taken against those involved in the attacks and all out efforts will be made to prevent further violence.
She stated that security measures which have been put in place will definitely help restore normalcy and peace in the State.
