Chandel repoll passes off sans hitches

Amid tight security arrangement repoll in 25 polling stations including two stations that went for the third time in Chandel district today passed off in a relatively peaceful manner.
Meanwhile, two helicopters would be reportedly requisitioned to airlift EVMs from remote polling stations of the district in order to meet the deadline of counting scheduled for March 6 .
Notably, the turn-up of voters was comparatively high at No 41/23 Modi polling station amidst stringent security measure.
41/23 Modi polling station is one of the polling stations that went to poll for the third time.
Incidents of State forces dispersing assembling of people were also witnessed at the station.
Till 12 noon today the voter turn out at the station was pegged at 54 percent.
There was complaint that no polling agents other than the NPF's were allowed inside the
booth.
Micro observer detailed at the polling station briefed reporters who went there that polling was by and large peaceful.
On being asked if polling agent of other political parties were denied entry, he clarified that three/four agents were there when voting commenced.
But he did not mention whose agents were still there.
Chandel DC, Th Chittaranjan meanwhile, told mediapersons that voting in 25 polling stations was peaceful without any complaint.
He said that preparation for sending two helicopters to airlift polling personnel and EVMs in remote areas is on.
The polling stations where officials and EVMs are to be airlifted included 41/32 Duthang, 41/42 Paraolon, 41/54 Khangbarol, 41/55 Lamphei, 41/57 New Songjang, 41/59 Joupi, 41/63 Hengsi, 41/65 Molngat, 41/66 Wayang and 41/68 Molcham.
He further said that decks have been cleared for counting of votes in 10 tables at the DC Complex, Chandel for two Assembly Constituencies.
Repoll was also held at 42/35 Kambang Khullen polling station in 42 (ST) Tengnoupal AC.
