Tremor ravages structures, buildings across State

Many standing structures and properties have been damaged as powerful earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale jolted the State early today morning.
A building owned by one RK Lansana of Dewlahland collapsed.
The building was completely damaged.
RK Aruna Devi (45) w/o Lansana sustained injury.
Personnel of 49 Assam Rifles swung into action to evacuate the occupants of the building and their properties.
The Chamber of Commerce Medical Care & Research Centre located at the heart of Imphal city bore the impact of the quake as the structure witnessed cracks and windows were shattered, no casualties were reported.
Large scale damage with many houses developing huge cracks have been reported.
Chief Minister of Manipur, Okram Ibobi Singh visited the injured victims at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.
Altogether, 13 persons including minor children were admitted to JNIMS and most of them received injuries on the head.
Some have been admitted with fractured leg and minor bruises.
Among others, the injured victims include Putuingam (22) s/o Khanrulunam of New Checkon, Thongam Pameshori Devi (46) w/o Th Ukil of Kongpal Kshetri Leikai, Oinam Tomba (17) s/o Megha Singh of Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Longjam Tombi (31) w/o L Dewan Singh and their son, Longjam Punshiba (5) of Yumnam Khunou, Khwairakpam Umakanta (36) s/o Kh Bijoy Singh of Yumnam Khunou, Md Janab Khan (21) s/o Abdul Salam of Sekmaijing, RK Aruna (45) w/o RK Lansana of Dewlahland, Oinam Sanathoi Singh (44) of Chingmei Makha Leikai, Oinam Elizabeth (42) and Khaidem Priyalini (8) d/o Kh Premdata of Iroisemba.
Among them Oinam Tomba is said to be in critical condition as he sustained injuries on his head and legs.
Saying that emergency service has been put in place at the hospital, Director of JNIMS, Dr L Deben stated that support staff, doctors, nurses are on high alert to face any situation relating to the earthquake.
Blood bank officer including Deputy Medical Superintendent and other senior doctors are monitoring the conditions of the victims.
He said that most of the victims sustained injuries on the head so the cases cannot be taken lightly.
Meanwhile, one power transmission tower for 132 KV Yurembam to Karong transmission line at Patsoi area, Imphal West district is damaged completely due to collapse of the adjacent structure.
Consequently, there will be no power supply in the areas fed by 132/33 KV substation at Karong in Senapati district.
According to MD, MSPDCL, N Sarat Singh, restoration work on the damaged tower is being taken up on war footing.
Normal supply will resume in 5/6 days time.
At the same time, Executive Engineer, Water Supply Maintenance Division No I, PHED, Manipur has notified that water pipeline broke at Iroisemba due to the earthquake and there will be no water supply to Langol Games Village, Lalambung, Lamphel, Cheiraoching areas and Old Assembly areas for few days and urged the general public to bear the inconvenience caused.
Various structures and properties were destroyed by the earthquake that shook the State today in Kangpokpi area.
More than 12 houses were partially damaged in Songpehjang village under Saitu Assembly Constituency while 2 houses have been completely damaged.
Many houses were damaged at Maohing Nepali village under Tadubi AC.
In Kangpokpi AC, eight houses excluding partly shattered house were completely damaged at Gopibung and Manedara while two cows were killed in Manedara.
Five houses apart from partially damaged houses were completely damaged at Setikhola and eighteen houses were completely ruined at Santolabari.
28 houses were wholly damaged at Parsian village, 5 houses at Tokpa village have been wrecked.
At Keithelmanbi village one house belonging has been completely shattered while another house is partially damaged in the quake.
Many houses were also reportedly damaged in Kalapahar area.
No human casualty has been reported though.
Meanwhile, in Saitu AC, 8 houses including a Church building has been damaged at W Buning village while 5 houses in Bollen village; 2 houses in Salem village; 3 houses in Tuipajang village; 2 houses in CH Ollim village and 4 houses including a Church kitchen in Joujang village were damaged.
One aged woman identified as Nengvah Haokip (80), w/o (L) Jangkholun Haokip of S Haijang in Churachandpur but presently staying at S Buning village sustained severe injury when the house collapsed.
Three houses were also damaged at Sapormeina village and one aged man identified as Vanghen Singsit sustained severe injury on his hands, head and legs.
Many houses were also reportedly damaged at Chalbung village and Luwangsongol including a Church building.
In Saikul AC, one house has been completely wrecked at Makokching village and some people including a minor and a pregnant woman reportedly sustained injury.
The office of Saikul Hill Town Committee has also been damaged.
18 houses were reported damaged at Maibung Likli village and one house has been damaged at Khokon village.
IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip along with other officials today inspected various places in Kangpokpi area which have been damaged by the earthquake and distributed tarpaulins to the affected people.
The team was also accompanied by the Senapati DC, Senapati SP, Saitu Gamphazol SDO and Kangpokpi Addl SP.
38 houses in Chalbung, Saitu AC, 350 houses in Charhajar Nepali, 126 houses in Motbung, 50 houses in Motbung Nepali and 25 houses in T Moling suffered damage and were inspected by the team.
Minister Ngamthang Haokip asserted that the State Government will provide required assistance soon after a report on the incident is submitted.
Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen also inspected affected areas to take stock of the situation.
