Imphal, July 01 2011:
Romi Bag Industries, Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai has denied involvement in the supply of school bags under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan programme.
speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, the firm's proprietor Khumbongmayum Dhanachandra outrightly rejected news report in some State dailies that listed the local manufacturer as one of the SSA suppliers.
While informing that the firm had been providing school bags to toppers in High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations for the last few years, he cited lack of information that the State SSA authorities had floated tender for supplying the bags under the Central-sponsored scheme.
Stating that the firm was set-up in 1996 after producing loan from State Bank of India, Dhanachandra maintained that apart from gifting bags to meritorious students and donation of Rs 40,000 as a goodwill gesture to students of Keishamthong High School, Romi Bag Industries had neither accepted tender from a Government institution nor supplied its product to the Government.
