Man shot, woman found dead

Unidentified persons shot dead a man in broad daylight at Gaipuinam, near Inter-State Bus Terminus, Khuman Lampak while a woman was found hung dead and miscreants carried out bomb attack at an Agriculture official's house in separate incidents of violence today.
Reports culled from the spot said that unidentified miscreants shot a person who was enjoying a drink with three of his acquaintances inside a drinking joint (vendor) at Gaipuinam today around 1.30pm.Lungangmei Kamei (43) w/o Angou, owner of the house cum vendor, said four men came to her vendor around noon today.
They consumed half a bottle of liquor.
She said that she was outside her house when she heard the sound of a gun-shot.
When she entered the house, she found one of the four men lying in a pool of blood while the rest fled.
a person who came along with the deceased was detained, she said.
Police later took him away for interrogation.

The deceased is said to be one Apam (33) of Somdal village, Ukhrul district.
A bullet hit him on the head and he died instantly.
The deceased is said to be a firewood trader.
The acquiantance of the de-ceased who was detained by the police has been identified as Azek alias Agzed (33) of Thashar village in Ukhrul district.
The body has been deposited at RIMS Morgue while a case has been registered in connection with the incident at Imphal PS.
Meanwhile, the Gaipuinam Pei (Village Court), Gaipui-nam Youth Club, Gaipuinam Women Society and three religious denominations of the village strongly condemned the incident.
A statement issued by the Gaipuinam bodies urged all concerned to refrain from such irresponsible acts in future.
In another incident, a wo-man was found hung to death at her home at Langol Laima-nai this morning.
However, people of the neighbourhood maintained that the woman was hung up after being mur-dered and they set ablaze the husband's house.
The deceased woman was one Athokpam (N) Sanatombi (44).Her husband is a Nepali named Indrakumar.
Sanatombi's parental family of Top Awang Leikai have claimed her corpse after post mortem at RIMS.
Sanatombi and Indrakumar got married around three years back.
Although they do not have any child, Sanatombi had two sons and a daughter from her first marriage.
But the children do not stay together with their mother.
Indrakumar also has a 21 years old daughter from his first wife.
Together with Sanatombi's father-in-law, the four were living together in Indrakumar's house.
According to Sanatombi's 19 year old daughter, they were informed by Indrakumar at around 7 am that Sanatombi was found hung to death.
"But when we reached Indrakumar's home, mother's body was already picked up by police", said the daughter.
People of the neighbourhood took photographs of Sanatombi's position when she was found hung to death.
The photographs show Sanatombi hanging from a small Nobab tree with her legs kneeling on the ground.
On inspecting Indrakumar's house before it was set ablaze, there were signs of dragging.
Moreover, Sanatombi's clothes as well as hair were found dusty, said the daughter while urging authorities concerned to find out the truth and do justice.
Bomb attack: Unknown miscreants launched a bomb attack at the residence of one Soibam Ranjitkumar (58) located at Lukram Leirak under Lamphel PS in Imphal West district this evening.
Ranjikumar is District Agriculture Officer, Senapati of the Horticulture and Soil Conservation dept.
Information culled from the spot said that the bomb was lobbed around 5pm today and and went off in the courtyard of Ranjitkumar.
No casualty has been reported.
The explosion caused damage to an i-10 car (MN 01S/2340) parked in the courtyard.
Meanwhile, a hand grenade was found this morning in front of the front door of Dr Athokpam Lenin (30) located at Irom Pukhri Mapal Thangjam Leirak.
Dr Lenin is a Medical Officer of Community Health Centre, Heirok.
Police retrieved the explosive which was suspected to have been planted last night.
