Food safety laboratory in the offing at Moreh

A food safety laboratory will be constructed soon near Moreh police station and the town’s Primary Health Centre (PHC), stated Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayentakumar today.
The Minister, who is on a two-day visit to the border town, inspected Moreh Hospital and the PHC, while checking the infrastructure and other essential requirements of these facilities .
After the inspection, Minister L Jayentakumar spoke to the accompanying media persons about the significance of constructing a food safety laboratory in Moreh .
With the Food Safety Act in place in Manipur, the lab is expected to increase both the safety and quality of food items that are imported to not only Manipur but also across India from the international market through this border town, he said .

A plot of land near Moreh police station has been earmarked for the lab, which will also include a store room and an office room, the Minister continued and added he will soon meet the Chief Minister and discuss about the expenditure to be earmarked for building the lab with the Planning Department .
Minister L Jayentakumar expressed satisfaction over the smooth functioning of the hospital and the PHC in the town while speaking about the need for upgrading the infrastructure of these healthcare facilities.
He stated these facilities need only some basic improvement and renovation .
For the upcoming food safety laboratory, he said a doctor can be employed as a lab technician and will be trained at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal for nearly six months .
To improve the quality of healthcare services, L Jayentakumar assured that he will speak with the concerned minister on road construction and that the Moreh Hospital will have a proper fencing around the facility .
Minister L Jayentakumar further added that lands have been already earmarked for a new PHC and a cultural complex at the Kwatha village.
Besides, there will also be a new 50-bed integrated AYUSH hospital for which former Health Minister D Korungthang had laid the foundation stone in 2016, he concluded.
