Imphal, July 28:
Reacting sharply to the Centres decision not to extend the ceasefire with the NSCN (IM) to Manipur and other states, two Naga organizations have decided to blockade national highways, NH-39 and NH-53 from tonight in protest against the decision.
The Senapati based Naga Youth Front has called a 36-hour Senapati district bandh from midnight tonight till 12 noon on July 30.The Zeliangrong Students Organization has also called a 72-hour blockade of NH-53 from this midnight.
The Naga Youth Front, in a statement faxed here, said the Senapati district bandh has been called against the statement of Union home minister LK Advani that the words without territorial limits would be deleted and status quo ante of June 14 restored.
Reports also said markets and shops were closed in Senapati today in protest against the Centres decision to limit the ceasefire only to Nagaland.
This led to the suspension of traffic between Imphal and Senapati, the reports added.
The Zeliangrong Students Organization has also called a 72-hours blockade on NH-53 starting from this midnight against the Centres decision to withdraw the ceasefire extension from Manipur.
According to Zanthu Golmei, publicity wing, ZSO, who intimated the information to IFP on the telephone this morning, the blockade will begin from midnight tonight and will continue till July 31 midnight.
He also stated that if the desired results have not come then the blockade may be extended further.
He said the decision to take up the blockade was adopted during a public meeting held at Tamenglong indoor stadium.
